New University Email Policy

Thursday

New policy prohibits automatic forwarding of university email to non-U of A accounts.

The University of Arizona’s new Email Policy was recently approved as a permanent policy.

The comprehensive policy combines two previous email policies into a single one, clarifies the university community’s rights and responsibilities when using university email, and strengthens protections for university information and data. Email continues to be the university’s official means of communication to members of the campus community.

Automatic email forwarding discontinued

Under the new policy, automatic forwarding of university email to non-U of A accounts, such as Gmail or Yahoo, will no longer be available beginning Tuesday, Oct. 20. This includes:

  • Automatic Forwarding of all your email from Outlook to another account

  • Mail Rule forwarding from your inbox to another account

You will still be able to forward individual emails to a personal account, as needed. When forwarding individual emails, be mindful not to forward messages containing internal or restricted information.

Email applications will allow you to add another email profile so that you can check both your work and personal accounts in one place.

More about the policy

The Email Policy was recently finalized following a campus feedback period this past spring. UITS, the Policy Office and the Office of General Counsel reviewed and considered all feedback before the policy received final approval from university senior leadership.

The Email Policy, along with all university policies, is available on the University Policies website.
