IT Strategy & FY27 Roadmap
Connecting university priorities to the work of UITS.
Strategy Planning
Building our IT Strategy
University Information Technology Services has developed an IT strategy and roadmap with measurable goals aligned with the university’s strategic imperatives—student success, research and community engagement. Sponsored by the university’s Chief Information Officer, the strategy establishes shared priorities for addressing current and emerging technology needs while supporting the university as it Delivers on Our Promise.
The UITS IT Strategy & FY27 Roadmap has been shaped by broad campus input. Surveys, listening sessions and direct conversations provided insights into what matters most to the campus community and where challenges exist. Those insights were distilled into specific needs, validated with campus partners and translated into the strategic initiatives that anchor the roadmap.
The result is a more focused and coordinated approach to IT across the university. The strategy and roadmap provide shared direction for decision-making, connect UITS priorities with the needs of the campus community and establish greater clarity and accountability for the work ahead.

FY27 Roadmap
The interconnected UITS FY27 strategic roadmap
The framework shows relationships across the strategy without forcing each effort into a single category.
Framework
How the strategy connects
The framework connects the University of Arizona’s strategic imperatives to UITS strategic initiatives and the strategic priorities that put the strategy into action. Service, collaboration and innovation shape how that work is delivered.
UITS Strategic Framework: university direction, division-wide focus and strategy in action.
University Direction
Four strategic imperatives
The three university imperatives set institutional direction. UITS adds a fourth imperative to build the capacity needed to deliver.
Success for Every Student
The university’s North StarReliable, accessible and connected experiences that reduce barriers across the student journey.
Research that Shapes the Future
Research capacity and competitivenessSecure computing, storage, data and technology capabilities that enable discovery.
Engagement with Our Communities
Access and opportunityConnected digital experiences and partnerships that make university resources easier to reach.
Strengthen Our Organization
The UITS imperativePeople, processes, infrastructure and culture for a modern, secure technology organization.
Division-wide Focus
Four UITS strategic initiatives
These initiatives require focused, division-wide attention during FY27. Each can advance several imperatives.
Faculty Support
Discover and pilot services that improve the faculty technology experience and prepare for FY28 implementation.
Identity & Authentication
Modernize identity, provisioning and integrations to provide secure, reliable access across the university.
AI for Operational Effectiveness
Build a reusable, governed approach to AI applications and prepare the workforce for broader adoption.
One Team
Strengthen relationships, culture and shared purpose so UITS works effectively across organizational boundaries.
Strategy in Action
FY27 strategic initiatives
Explore the FY27 focus, planned work, strategic alignment and connections for each initiative.
Faculty Support
Discovery, pilots and coordinated services
FY27 Focus
Understand faculty needs across the full technology experience and prepare coordinated services for FY28.
Planned Work
- Conduct discovery with faculty and service partners.
- Pilot new approaches during FY27.

Why It Matters
Faculty technology experiences directly affect teaching and student learning. Faculty also rely on technology for research and community engagement.
Imperative Alignment
Primary: Success for Every Student, Research and Engagement
Strategic Priority Connections
The current portfolio provides enabling foundations through Primo NDE, AI+ Studio Support and technology that improves student services. Discovery will identify future Strategic Priorities specifically tied to faculty support.
Identity & Authentication
Secure, reliable access across the university
FY27 Focus
Modernize how people receive, use and manage secure access to university systems and resources.
Planned Work
- Complete the UA and UAGC migration to SailPoint Identity Security Cloud.
- Continue priority application integrations.
- Begin migration from Access Flow and rebuild provisioning rules now managed through Microsoft Identity Management.
Why It Matters
Secure, reliable access underpins student systems, research environments, administrative services and digital resources.
Imperative Alignment
Primary:
Strengthen Our Organization
Foundational to all four imperatives.

Planned Work
- Establish an approach for developing AI-enabled applications.
- Define governance and technology architecture needs.
- Assess workforce requirements and prepare employees for broader AI adoption.
Why It Matters
AI can improve student support, research capability, administrative processes and service delivery, but adoption requires governance and workforce readiness.
Imperative Alignment
Cross-cutting across all four imperatives
Strategic Priority Connections
Directly aligned Strategic Priority: AI Student Support and Case Management.
One Team
Relationships, culture and shared purpose
