Quicker Data Changes as of Sep. 14
New identity system updates employee status much faster in university database, provides platform for future provisioning improvements
The first phase of a new system, SailPoint Identity IQ (IIQ), will be implemented Saturday, Sep. 14. During this implementation, the NetID portal account creation will be closed from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Those needing emergency password reset or change can contact the 24/7 Support Center during this time.
The new IIQ implementation will increase the frequency of updates from UAccess employee and DCC records to the EDS (enterprise directory service). This means that any systems using the EDS to authenticate a person’s status will recognize their new status within hours. Currently, updating the EDS occurs every 24 hours, resulting in employees waiting for changes to be recognized in their onboarding, change, or offboarding status. Note that systems that do not use the EDS to authenticate will not change.
In addition, the IIQ launch will include automatic provisioning of a university Google account for new employees, instead of needing to opt in. (Mail will still route to Microsoft Office 365.)
The first phase of SailPoint integration is just the beginning of a larger Identity & Access Management (IAM) project that will modernize and streamline the University’s authentication infrastructure. IAM is a core project within the ASITS (Accelerating Secure IT Services) initiative.
One of the many benefits of IIQ is improved security and compliance by ensuring that individuals are provided with or removed from access to necessary tools and data in a more timely manner. Future iterations of the IAM initiative will further automate processes and ensure everyone has access to or the appropriate removal from the core systems they need to successfully execute in their roles.
