IT Restructure Organizational Design
The IT Restructure process is entering a new phase. UITS will implement changes to transition IT staff from the temporary March 4 reporting structure to a sustainable model prioritizing information security and aligning with the university’s mission and organizational design.
Since April, UITS leaders have engaged in a comprehensive discovery process, which has led to developing a new organizational structure. The new structure reflects the dual functions IT staff have as technical professionals providing services university-wide and in colleges and divisions.
IT Organizational Changes
The primary organizational changes included in the restructure process include:
- Integrating network, data center, server administration, enterprise support and Drupal/Wordpress functions into UITS enterprise teams to continue information security improvements for colleges and divisions as part of the Accelerating Secure IT Services program. (Figure A)
- All other IT functions that transitioned to UITS on March 4 will be organized into IT teams supporting senior vice presidents, colleges and divisions. (Figure B)
Bringing together IT teams that are providing similar services across the university will increase collaboration and standardize processes and tools when possible. This structure also provides IT staff with opportunities for professional development, knowledge sharing across technical functions, and backup support for staff on a leave of absence or paid time off.
UITS will begin making changes in the fall of 2024, and plan to complete the organizational restructure process in early 2025.
