What the Messier 87 black hole would look like? UA Department of Astronomy researchers Dimitrios Psaltis, Feryal Ozel, Chi-kwan Chan, and Lia Medeiros used the El Gato system in the Computer Center's Research Data Center to model it before processing of the Event Horizon Telescope data was completed.
From the UA News article:
[T]he team generated high-fidelity models of EHT observations by harnessing the power of a supercomputer consisting of 140 Nvidia graphics-processing units, or GPUs, commonly used for graphics-heavy video-gaming applications.
