2021 NetID Password Expiration Will Be Last Required Change

Jan. 8, 2021

The University's NetID password requirements are changing. You will no longer have to change your NetID password every year.

In order to ensure that your password meets the highest security standards, you will need to make one last password change when you reach the expiration of your current password; some members of the campus community may have already received an expiration notice.

The new password you create will have an expiration date of 100 years, effectively meaning you will not see a required change again.

You do not need to wait for expiration to change your password. Any password created from Dec. 20, 2020 forward will be good for 100 years.

See Campus Technology How-To's for video and written documentation on how to change your NetID password.

Increased security measures such as NetID+ are making this policy change possible. You should still remain vigilant.

  • Do not approve a NetID+ request unless you were the one who made it.
  • Be wary of email – especially with the "External" banner – asking you for private information or financial requests.

If you suspect your password has been compromised, go to the NetID webpage and change it.
