At the University of Arizona, research is at the heart of innovation. It drives solutions to complex challenges, strengthens communities, and propels the university to its status as a top-ranked institution. From space exploration to healthcare, environmental science to artificial intelligence, the university’s commitment to research fuels groundbreaking discoveries that shape the future.

Supporting this mission is a cornerstone of UITS, which plays an integral role in enabling the success of researchers through its Research & Discovery Technologies (RDT) provides robust resources, including three supercomputers available to all university researchers, equipped with extensive free allocation time, free storage, a large software catalog, and expert consulting services. These tools are designed to enhance efficiency and accelerate the time to discovery, ensuring that UITS remains an essential partner in the university's research enterprise. Chris Reidy, Research Support Manager of UITS, understands the access to supercomputing that researchers need to have. “The supercomputers play a crucial role, enabling parallel processing and speeding up data analysis that would otherwise take years, or not be possible at all with local computing resources.”

The RDT offers an array of additional resources to researchers, including data storage solutions, secure networks, cloud computing options, and high-performance computing (HPC) systems like the powerful supercomputers Ocelote, Puma, and El Gato. These tools enable faculty, staff, and students to process massive datasets, conduct complex simulations, collaborate with colleagues worldwide, and safeguard sensitive information. Whether modeling climate change impacts, analyzing genomic data, or tackling other challenges once deemed insurmountable, these resources provide a robust and reliable technological framework that allows researchers to focus on accelerating their discoveries.

In a rapidly evolving technological landscape, UITS continues to adapt to meet researchers' needs. Read more about the ways UITS supports research and the robust suite of offerings.
