IT Organizational Design

Feb. 2025 Update: In collaboration with campus stakeholders, further refinements will be made to the IT operational model to simplify the reporting structure within UITS, while preserving the ability of colleges and divisions to prioritize their IT goals. Please continue to visit this webpage for updates on this process.

IT Centralization Moves to IT Restructure
The IT centralization process is entering a new phase. UITS will be implementing changes to transition IT staff from the temporary March 4, 2024 reporting structure to a more sustainable model prioritizing information security and aligning with the university’s mission and organizational design.

In April 2024, UITS leaders engaged in a comprehensive discovery process, which has led to development of a new operational model. The new model reflects the dual functions IT staff have as technical professionals providing services university-wide and in colleges and divisions.

IT Operational Model
The organizational changes associated with the IT restructure process are focused on:

  • Integrating network, data center, server administration, enterprise support and Drupal/Wordpress functions into UITS enterprise teams to continue information security improvements for colleges and divisions as part of the Accelerating Secure IT Services program
  • Transitioning all other IT functions that joined UITS on March 4, 2024 into IT teams supporting senior vice presidents, colleges and divisions.

Bringing together IT teams that are providing similar services across the university will increase collaboration and standardize processes and tools when possible. This model also provides IT staff with opportunities for professional development, knowledge sharing across technical functions, and backup support for staff on a leave of absence or paid time off.

UITS will begin making changes in the fall of 2024, and plans to complete the organizational restructure process by summer 2025.
