24/7 Moves: Check Before You Go

Aug. 21, 2019

Don’t head out the door for tech help and find out you’ve lugged your computer to the wrong place.

The 24/7 IT Support Center move is just one of the changes you need to know about campus tech this semester. You’ll also want the locations for the Main Library’s specialty computer labs, and the heads-up about government email security changes.

24/7 IT Support: Express locations and main lobby move

At the start of the semester, 24/7 Express locations around campus will help new students:

  • connect to UAWiFi and the campus network
  • set up email on your phone
  • find software
  • get your tech questions answered

Sometime after the semester start, the main 24/7 lobby will move from the Martin Luther King, Jr building to Slonaker House at 2nd Street and Park Avenue. And in spring 2020 it will move again to the Student Success District.

Visit the 24/7 online—247.arizona.edu—before you head out the door to make sure you’re going to the current location.

Library specialty computer labs in Sci-Eng Library 200S

Find the Library’s iSpace and OSCR’s multimedia Zone lab in Science-Engineering Library room 200S during University Libraries construction.

When construction finishes next spring, both services—and the 24/7 IT Support Center—will move to the new Student Success District being built.

Email forwards might drop messages

This is not a University change, but you should know that the federal government is implementing DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication Reporting and Conformance) security on .gov and .mil accounts.

DMARC is a good thing, in that it helps prevent people from sending you scam email by pretending to be a government agency.

But having a forward on your account can be an issue. Some UA researchers working with the National Science Foundation have missed messages because they had set forwards.

When a government agency (or other organization using DMARC) has an email address on file for you, they are confident they are sending email to you. If you have set up a forward (or inbox rule) that sends your email to another account, the government email might get quarantined or dropped before it hits the inbox of your second account—without any notice.

We recommend using your phone or tablet email app, or your desktop email software, to set up all your email accounts in one place, instead of forwarding email from one account to another. The 24/7 IT Support Center can help you with email setup.
