Dear UITS Colleagues,

After much reflection, I have decided to retire from my position as chief information officer of the University of Arizona effective, Friday, Jan. 17, 2025. This decision brings mixed emotions, as my work for the university has been a passion for many years, however, I have reached a point where I am ready to focus on other important aspects of my life.

I am very proud to have been the CIO during a period of outstanding national success for the U of A in enrollment, research and service. Within UITS, we have accomplished a tremendous amount of work in support of the university’s mission. Together, we have strengthened our cybersecurity culture, optimized system efficiency through elastic cloud infrastructure, and enhanced the student digital experience with personalized and unified solutions. Our dedicated teams have maintained a world-class university network, supported the supercomputing needs of U of A faculty and expanded access to institutional data. We have also elevated the university’s position as a national and state-wide leader in information technology, winning awards and recognition for our success in providing secure, reliable, efficient, and innovative information technology services.

It has been a privilege to work alongside such a talented group of people committed to serving the university. I am truly grateful for all that we have achieved together, and I know I am a better person for having had the opportunity to work with all of you.

Thank you for the trust and support you have given me throughout my time as CIO. I look forward to connecting with as many of you as possible during the final weeks leading up to my retirement. I wish the UITS team continued success in serving the growing technology needs of the university’s students, staff and faculty.

Sincerely,

Barry Brummund
