Classroom Upgrades for Spring 2022

Jan. 14, 2022

Faculty will see improvements in centrally schedule classrooms as they return to teaching, with more work to come over the semester

Engaging Online Students

When remote students can’t hear what the in-person students do, they can disengage from the course material. Classroom Technologies Services (CTS) has made improvements to help instructors keep them learning.

  • All classrooms have been upgraded to allow online students to hear the instructor, either through a microphone system or a webcam at the teaching station.
  • Some classrooms have had a room microphone installed to pick up student voices as well, allowing remote students to hear comments made by in-class students. These are:
    • Modern Languages 311
    • Harvill 204, 305
    • Chavez 110, 111
    • Koffler 216
    • CTS is still evaluating the room microphone technology and would appreciate feedback from instructors in these rooms. If you are teaching in one of these rooms and need assistance with verifying it is active, please contact CTS at 520-621-3852.

Upcoming Work

During the spring 2022 semester, CTS will be refreshing the technology in 60 classrooms:

  • CHVEZ 105, 302, 305, 306, 307
  • EDUC 310
  • GIT 207
  • HARV 103, 105, 107, 111, 130, 134, 140, 210, 232, 234, 240, 315, 404, 411, 413
  • HAURY 219
  • ILC 117, 119, 129, 135, 141, 151
  • MLNG 201, 203, 204, 212, 213, 301, 302, 304, 306, 312, 313, 401, 402, 403, 404, 405, 406, 502, 503, 504, 505
  • SAGHA 101, 223
  • SSCI 114, 118, 132, 206, 222, 307, 308, 312

The installations will be newer versions of the existing equipment and instructors will see no difference in controls or classroom usage after the refresh. The work will be done over weekends and spring break with no disruption to classroom operations.

As part of this project, CTS will be upgrading the projector resolution and screens in some rooms. Additionally, technology such as the classroom computer, speakers, network, cabling, and assisted listening systems will be refreshed/upgraded as needed.

  • The upgrade for the projector will result in a 16:9 resolution for presenting. You may want to copy any 4:3 PowerPoint slide decks after the upgrade and resize the presentation to fill the new screen.

If you experience any issues relating to the classroom refresh, or any needs in centrally scheduled classrooms, please contact CTS at 520-621-3852. The Student Tech Fee funds CTS's support of instruction.
