The University wired network uses the 802.1x security policy, which requires login with a NetID and password. This provides additional security to the campus network.
If you connect a computer on campus via the Ethernet port, you or the computer will need to be authenticated in order to connect to the network. If you are connecting a VoIP phone, fax machine, or printer to an Ethernet jack, the network will recognize the device type automatically. For servers, or other devices that aren't suited to login by an individual, talk to your department's IT staff.
Departmental IT staff will configure the computers they administer. If you are configuring your own machine, see:
- Wired Network Configuration - Windows 10
- Wired Network Configuration - Windows 7
- Wired Network Configuration - Mac
If your computer is not configured, after 20-30 seconds of attempting to connect it will redirect to a web portal where you can log in with your NetID and password.
Alternately, you can always connect to the campus wireless network, UAWiFi, with NetID and password.
Guests to campus can:
- Use the UA Guest or eduroam wireless networks.
- Request assistance getting on the wired network from IT staff of the department they're visiting.
- Use the guest web portal login for limited internet access via the wired network, bypassing the University network.
Anyone with an active NetID can log onto the campus network.
