Important December 2020 Change to Zoom and Affect on Panopto:
Change 1: Our current Zoom recording retention policy allows recordings to remain in Zoom’s Cloud space for 200 days before auto-deleting. On December 21st, we will reduce the number of days these recordings are kept to 130 days. The change will go into effect immediately on the 21st, meaning all recordings made on August 12th, 2020 and prior will be deleted on December 21st, 2020. The 130-day retention policy allows for a full term to pass with enough time to move recordings into Panopto for future use, while attaining a significant cost saving to the University.
Change 2: Panopto will be enhancing their integration with Zoom. Presently, all Zoom recordings automatically move into a preset folder in your personal Panopto “My Folder”. After the update targeted for December all Panopto users will need to opt-in or their recordings will not move into Panopto. The opt-in is a one-time task that brings many benefits. Panopto users can choose the location of their Zoom meetings and recordings made through D2L’s Zoom integration will automatically go into the Panopto course folder.
Panopto is a video streaming service that instructors can use to capture lectures and make the recordings available to students as well as stream videos. Panopto is integrated into D2L/Brightspace but can also be used outside of a D2L/Brightspace course. When instructors request a video from the library, if the library does not already have access to the video via existing services, the library will prepare the video and host it on Panopto.
